“We can double electric generation in this country by developing wind power in places that are friendly to both people and wildlife

Wind turbine – ground up view

We have what we call “fossil fuel friends”. They’re the ones who like to pester us about bird kills due to wind turbines. And, frankly, we mentally “turn the other way” when thinking about the sacrifice.

I mean–aren’t we way too often sacrificing nature, even in these better-informed times, not to mention ecosystem benefits?

Now comes a neat tool from TNC that helps wind energy developers more effectively plan the locations of their wind farms. It’s called Site Wind Right. It’s a mapping device which identifies areas in 17 Midwest states where wind development is unlikely to encounter significant wildlife-related impacts.

Check it out–nerd or just curious.
